Trio of mountain lions visit Upper Ojai home

Video from Ring camera facing Dwylene and Gary Zapparelli's driveway

Dwylene and Gary Zapparelli of Upper Ojai installed a Ring camera at their house on Sunday afternoon.
The next morning, when they checked it, they were astonished to see "three pumas walking across the driveway. It appears to be a mama and her grown cubs," Dwylene wrote in a text to her neighbor.
This is not the first time the Zapparellis have had a close encounter with a mountain lion. About 22 years ago, when Gary pulled in to the driveway, his headlights illuminated a mountain lion in the driveway next to their backyard gate.
Dwylene was just walking in her back door to feed her dog in the house because it refused to move away from that same back gate to eat his food.
As Dwylene recalls, "Gary honked and flashed (his headlights) and the lion just looked over his shoulder and slowly padded away."
Just as Dwylene walked in the house and put the dog and food in the kitchen, she walked out to see why Gary was honking the horn.
"It was a close call," she said.
